Report: Roma interested in potential transfer for Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Serie A side AS Roma are showing interest in a potential transfer of Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea, according to reports.

The Italian club are managed by former Blues boss Jose Mourinho and currently sit sixth in the country’s top flight.

They are believed to be keen on signing new players in the January transfer window to bolster their chances for the remainder of the season.

According to Il Romanista, Roma have shown increased interest in Loftus-Cheek in recent days.

A move to the Italian capital would see the midfielder reunite with former Blues forward Tammy Abraham, who made a permanent move there in the summer transfer window.

The report suggests the club would be able to pay his salary under a loan deal until the end of the season.

On top of that, the 25-year-old’s style of play and experience are said to help Mourinho’s side throughout the campaign.

Loftus-Cheek have enjoyed plenty of playing time at Chelsea so far this season, making 17 appearances in all competitions under Thomas Tuchel.

With injuries like N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, the Cobham academy product has featured heavily in the squad in recent weeks, with Roma now expected to consider a move for him next month due to his impressive performances.

He featured in midfield in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Everton on Thursday night, which saw the Blues lose pace to Premier League leaders Manchester City as they chased their sixth title.
